Want a change?

<3 Image thanks to *astral17

Have you ever been in that position where you feel like a change and want to try something different? I know I have. We all go through stages where we want a new hairstyle but the shape of your face can make or break your new look. That's why I have written this article on things to consider before you go down to the hairdressers and what hairstyles suit your face shape.

First of all, make sure you have a good hairdresser. A good hairdresser will know what suits your needs, will listen to your opinion and make good suggestions. Sometimes the most expensive hairdresser is not always the best so it's worth shopping around for a good one. Develop a relationship with your hairdresser and they will know what's best for you.

Always speak your mind. If you don't know exactly what you want from your hairdresser when you go, listen to their suggestions and advice and let them decide as, ultimately they are the professionals. Alternately, If you know exactly what you want, go ahead and let them know but make sure you describe exactly what you want. Have a look in hairstyle magazines for inspiration and to show these to your hairdresser.

Think about your lifestyle and the nature of your hair. If you have curly hair but you want a straight hairstyle, are you willing to get up every morning to style it? Or maybe you can't be bothered and just want to get up and go. Also, having curly hair means your style will never truely be sleek and straight. If this is the case, consider all your options and again consult your hairdresser.

So as I brushed upon earlier, the best hairstyle for you depends on your face shape. But what if you don't know what shape your face is? Well, this is probabaly the best way to do it:

1. Pin your hair back into a ponytail and clip all loose strands back.
2. Stand in front of a mirror and trace the shape of your face with lipstick. Alternately, draw the shape on the mirror.

Okay so now you should be able to see what shape your face is, if your still struggling, take a look at this website for help. Or, compare the photos below to help you along!

Oval Shape - Cameron Diaz, Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox

Congratulations, this shape suits pretty much any hair style going, however avoid heavy fringes/bangs which covers up your face. Side fringes look good and you can go short medium or long. short hair is especially popular on the catwalk which you could pull off. Add layering and highlights to accentuate your face.

Round - Drew Barrymore, Christina Ricci, Kate Bosworth

Most hairstyles suit your face however there are a some things to avoid. As the widest part of your face tends to be the cheekbones, never go for a bob at chin length which frames your face. Go for different lengths with layers, whether your hair is curly or straight.

Heart shape - Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Naomi Campbell

As your face is wider towards the top, avoid top heavy haircuts and try a hair cut that creates volume around your chin. Bobs are great for balancing your shape. Fringes look great with your face shape, both whispy and sharp which equally look dramatic.

Long shape - Kirsty Allie, Stephannie Seymour, Gwyneth Paltrow

Long shaped faces suit thick blunt fringes to hide a large forehead. If your forhead is small avoid a fringe and go for shorter, shoulder-length hair. Don't go for long. Wavy hair looks great with long face shapes, especially short with lots of layering.

So, if you want a change, have a think about what hairstyle you want and go for it!

Good luck and let me know what you think.
