Well it's a new year and I bet many of you have made new years resolutions. But, you also need time to reflect on how the past year has gone and to plan what you intend to do in the next year if you want to improve yourself. Plus, we all know that most of us don't keep to our resolutions. We all tend to fall into a rut and breaking out of these can be hard but the key is not to make vague goals, be very specific. Also, give yourself a time limit for short term goals. That's why I have written an article on how to improve yourself and your life, the way you think and hopefully 2010 will be your best year yet!
Now. Think about what you achieved in the past year. Did you complete a marathon? Did you hand in an assignment in on time? Have you made lots of new friends? How did you achieve these successful moments of last year? Because whatever you did it worked!
Now think about what you could have improved on. For example, did you have to rush projects/assignments because you left them to the last moment? Or did you neglect friends and family because you spent too much time on other things? What made you not put 100% into these things?
What was your money situation like in the past year? Most of us all want more money and this is achieveable if you set your mind to it. Maybe you want to get a part-time job or maybe you want to get one that pays more.
Is there something which you want to improve specifically, like your career, social life and relationships, or academically? How are you going to improve this area?
Is there anything new you want to take up in your spare time? Like a new passtime, or maybe work experience to help your career? When was the last time you relaxed? Maybe you feel like all your time is taken up with everything else and you're left with no 'me' time?
What about your health, do you feel healthy or do you feel you're not doing enough exercise? If no, then do you need to do more exercise? Or maybe you need a pamper day to relax? What can you do to make yourself feel more comfortable in your own body?
Once you have thought about what it is you want to improve upon, write about how you are going to go about it. List all your goals and then list what action is needed to do it, this helps your goals be more realistic. Once you've done this stick it somewhere you look at every day, like next to your mirror in the bathroom, or near your tv/computer.
Here are my goals for 2010:
* Plan enough time so that I don't have to rush assignments * Spend more time with friends and family * Save more money * Get as much overtime at work as possible in the holidays * Appreciate the people around me * Blog more often * Be more assertive * Use my time more effectively *
What are yours?
